Geolocation

Description

Lowell Darling is the first performance artists ever to run for govorner of the state of California. In his honor, a fund-raising $1,000-a-plate-dinner was held at the Museum of Conceptual Art. Using a third hand and a pair of cotton lips, saving his own limbs for later, Darling greeted his supporters and stated his platform. Some of his slogans and promises are presented below:

WRITE YOUR OWN TICKET:
The part of the state budget presently allocated to building highways, roads, buildings and the space shuttle program will be used to hire people to be themselves for the Sate of California […]

REPLACE TAXES WITH INCREDIBLE GOOD LUCK: […]

BILLBOARD CITY:
All billboards will be put in one location rather than being spread through the state. Visitors will drive through it like Lion Safari Country.

BAN 1984:
To reduce the mounting paranoia resulting from George Orwell’s book, we will get rid of 1984 […]

PRESIDENTIAL TELEVISION NETWORK:
The Presidential Television Network will be started by surgically implanting a video camera in the President’s forehead so that Americans will see what the President sees on their television sets […]

WEDNESDAYS OFF:
Everyone gets Wednesdays off.

THE HUMAN ZOO:
I propose that animals be returned to their original homes – the jungles, forests, rivers. I recommend that in their place we commission artists to make wild animal costumes and hire the unemployed to wear them […] (Darling 1978: 33)
